In Recognition of Katherine

Katherine has worked with the La Perouse Community Groups for the past year. She made a wonderful contribution to the group, and was a great assistance to Barbra at the Aboriginal Women's Healing House. Katherine is leaving Area Health, and going home to her own country.

( A Poem from Katherine )

Sister Girls - for my Aunties

I have no country here
No flag to mark my ground,
Nor track to tell of

But in the heart,
Where stories are held
We beat the same

Standing on shared ground
Red, yellow, red, pink, red, black
The colors of sister girls
One blood, different lives
Making sounds
Giving voice

Sister girls

From many worlds
Except in the heart
Where we hold stories
Of ourselves
Our sadness
Of family
Our celebration
Of difference
Our survival

In the heart
Where our stories are shared
We beat the same,
Yet different.

Sister Girls.

(Katherine Lamnbert-Pennington 5 March 2002)

Katherine was given a wonderful farewell at the Healing House in August 2002. We were all tearful, sad, but full of respect for one another. Farewell Katherine, we will all meet again.

Note: there is a video of this weekend. Katherine was Barbra Asplet's guest at the National NAIDOC Ball, which was held in Sydney last month in July.
